The Americano tournament, also known as the pairs tournament, is a sports competition format where participants are grouped into teams of two. Teams compete in a series of matches, and partners change each round so that all players have played both with and against all other players.
Enter the list of tournament participants/competitors (players, people, etc.) into the table, one per box. Then click on the Generate button to start the random generation of the calendar per rounds (denoted #) of the tournament.
Each element on the board will team up with everyone else and meet everyone else.
Example: For a 4-player Americano tournament P1,P2,P3,P4, a possible draw is:
Game 1: (P1 & P3) vs. (P2 & P4)
Game 2: (P1 & P4) vs. (P2 & P3)
Game 3: (P2 & P1) vs. (P4 & P3)
! It is imperative that the number of participants is a multiple of 4 (for example 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 players), otherwise some players will find themselves without a teammate or opponent.
Empty encounters, noted ??? in an Americano tournament occur when the number of players is not a multiple of 4.
In this case, some players may have a break during a round, because there are not enough partners or opponents available for everyone.
The Americano tournament can be adapted to organize games in teams of 2 for individual sports such as Tennis, Badminton, Padel, Squash, etc.
It is also the base for card-based games like Bridge tournaments.
