Answers to Questions (FAQ)

What is reverse text writing? (Definition)

Reverse writing (or Backwards writing) is a writing method that writes letters and / or words from right to left (unlike usual writing which is left to right).

Example: trevnI is the word Invert written with the first letter on the right and the last on the left

Backwards writing should not be confused with the writing upside down, nor with the mirror writing, which also symmetrizes the characters.

How to write using this text reverser?

Each generator button realizes a distinct operation of reversing (direction, words, etc.)

Example: Text to reverse: SENTENCE TO REVERSE
SENTENCE 2

— Reverse/flip the whole text by writing from right to left (backward):

Example: 2 ECNETNES
RESREVNI OT ECNETNES

— Reverse/flip the content of each line separately:

Example: RESREVNI OT ECNETNES
2 ECNETNES

— Reverse/flip the letters of each words by keeping word order:

Example: ECNETNES OT RESREVNI
ECNETNES 2

— Reverse/flip word order by beginning with the end:

Example: 2 SENTENCE
REVERSE TO SENTENCE

— Reverse/flip lines order by beginning with the last one:

Example: SENTENCE 2
SENTENCE TO REVERSE

These methods can be combined (eg. reverse word order for each lines, etc.')

How to write text as seen in a mirror?

When a text is written to be read in a mirror (reflected), to reverse the order of the letters is not enough, the characters themselves must also be reversed (more exactly they must undergo a vertical symmetry)

Example: In a mirror ( becomes )

dCode offers a tool: specular writing, associated in the popular spirit with Leonardo da Vinci.

What are the words that are spelled the same backwards?

Some words are written exactly the same, written one way/direction or the other, they cannot be reversed, they are palindromes.

Example: BOB, DEIFIED, KAYAK, LEVEL, RADAR, SOS, WOW are palindromes in English

dCode offers a tool listing palindromes.
