What is the Wetterkurzschlussel? (Definition)

The Wetterkurzschlussel (WKS) is a code used to send weather messages. It is composed of letters corresponding to weather information, usually temperatures or wind directions. The codes were transmitted via the Enigma machine and were short in order to decrease their propensity to be deciphered by the enemy.

How to encrypt with short weather codes?

The codes were a substitution of temperatures by letters (polyalphabetic substitution) according to the table:
