Answers to Questions (FAQ)

What is the next word in the dictionary? (Definition)

From a chosen word (existing or invented), the next word in a dictionary is the word located directly after, in alphabetical order.

If the word does not exist, then assume that it does and find the position it would have in the dictionary.

How to find the next word in the dictionary?

Indicate the word and click on the Search button to obtain the list of the following words in the selected dictionary.

Example: WORDBOOK is a word that comes next to the word WORD

(With a physical dictionary) Manually look up the word, and check directly under it to find the next word.

How to find a word a little further in the dictionary?

Indicate the word on dCode (above), list the next 10, and if it is not enough, start again with the last word in the list.

(With a physical dictionary) Look up the word and read the first one on the next page directly.

What is the S+7 method?

The S+7 method is an application of looking up the next 7th noun in the dictionary. Imagined by the members of Oulipo (in particular Jean Lescure), the method consists in replacing in a message or an initial text, each noun (substantive) by a noun which follows it in the dictionary, for S+7, c' is the next 7th common name.
