Ook is a rewriting of the BrainFuck, an already obfuscated esoteric programming language, designed to be writable and readable by orang-utans (which would communicate by pronouncing the onomatopoeia ook, ook).
From any BrainFuck code and the following table, the Ook! code can be interpreted:
+ | Ook. Ook. |
---|---|
- | Ook! Ook! |
> | Ook. Ook? |
< | Ook? Ook. |
[ | Ook! Ook? |
] | Ook? Ook! |
. | Ook! Ook. |

Example: The Ook! program Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook! Ook? Ook. Ook? Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook? Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook. Ook! Ook! Ook! Ook! Ook! Ook! Ook! Ook. should output the 3 characters OOK
In order to shorten writing and avoid multiples Ook, the code is sometimes simplified (by removing the Ook), making it a ternary code (with 3 characters):
+ | .. |
---|---|
- | !! |
> | .? |
< | ?. |
[ | !? |
] | ?! |
. | !. |

The Ook! Runs through an Ook! Interpreter (or Ook! compiler). Each byte returned from the program will appear in the console provided on dCode. The contents of the memory register from Ook! program can also be displayed.
The message consists of the words Ook followed by . (dot) or ? (question mark) or ! (exclamation mark).
The presence or repetition of the word OK or Okey or Okay or any references to monkeys and / or ourangutans are clues.
